Detachable Silencer
During an era of rising tensions between the Middle East and the Western world, Air Commodore Peter Ghong attempts to release his frustrations and fears through a mock email, “declaring” an all-out war to be enacted with Australia reigning supreme. However, when he tries to delete this fake email, Peter accidently sends it to a Turkish general, who responds to his declaration by launching a singular missile towards Peter’s military base, claiming that the email was “hurtful and not that funny”. Realising this could cause both the end of his job and the casualties of everyone within the base, Peter secretly calls for the help of operator and pilot Garret Flow, his second in command and workplace rival. Now, Peter has to convince Garret to help resolve this issue without alerting anyone and potentially escalating the situation into an all-out war.
Although I believe I could have added more analysis into the script itself, including direction and potential character movements, I believe that I overall succeeded in creating a tight screenplay that subtly indicated the main character's distaste for each other whilst also realising the respect they have for their individual roles. I believe I mainly achieved this through their spatial relationship to each other (one forced to stand, the other sitting), and through the passive aggressive dialogue.
My primary objective for this script was to create a darkly comedic take on compassion between people and the acceptance that importance of some events can overwhelm personal hatred, and create a plain of mutual understanding.
