Week 5 - Staging and coverage/Turning point.

Date

March 2024

Roles

Actor, Writer.

A short film that utilises multiple different camera angles in a small space that conveys a fun story of urgency, focusing on the "Hand slapping" game. The film follows two characters who choose to partake in slapping each other whilst waiting for something to load. The relationship becomes clear as the female character continues to overpower the male, and right as he gets a chance to return the favour, the computer finishes loading, and the game is called off. Ultimately, the film attempts to make full use of a singular location and make a small space seem more engaging through the staging of the two main characters and their positioning in regards to the camera angles. However, I do think that a more interesting turning point should have been implemented in the film, as the relationship between the two characters does not really change throughout its runtime. This would have made the film more engaging. The usage of several varying and quickly interjected camera angles not only enhances the tension of the scene, getting more frequent as the slapping becomes more prominent, but it also displays the status of each character compared to each other and who holds the most power.
